The US ambassador designate to Bangladesh, James F Moriarty, said the United States was a steadfast friend of the Bangladeshi people.
He made the comment at Zia International Airport on his arrival on Thursday to take up his new assignment in Dhaka.
Moriarty said, ‘I look forward to learning more about Bangladesh and its people and helping Bangladeshis understand the United States better.’
‘It is an honour and privilege to serve as ambassador of the United States of America to Bangladesh,’ he said.
Moriarty, who succeeds former US ambassador Patricia Butenis, arrived at the airport along with his wife Lauren, at 12:12pm.
The US chargé d’affaires, Geeta Pasi, and senior US embassy officials greeted him at the airport.
